Nigerian (Yoruba) Parties: Where We All Clock Out of Reality and Enter Premium Delusion

There’s something about Nigerian parties — Yoruba ones especially — that should be studied in Harvard.
For a few precious hours, we abandon our real lives and fully commit to the fantasy:
We are rich, famous, heartbreak-free, and living in a Netflix special titled "Soft Life: The Series." ✨
The preparation is military-grade.
You start planning one month ahead:

Outfit? Custom made. (Three fittings, minimum.) ✂️

Makeup? Full face beat that could survive a hurricane. 💄

Gele? Taller than your life goals. 🎀

Shoes? Painful but necessary sacrifices to the gods of Instagram. 👠

By the time you’re stepping into the hall, you’re a moving hallucination.
Sequins blinding the innocent. ✨ Lace scratching your armpits but you dare not flinch.🤣
The photographer’s flash is your oxygen. 📸 Your walk? Slow motion. Your smile? ₦1.2 million per second.
And let’s not lie —
We are ALL lying.
Lying that we’re not hot in our 7-layer outfits. 🔥
Lying that our feet don’t feel like they've been beaten with a pestle. 🥲
Lying that we “only had one drink” when we’re three shots away from confessing family secrets. 🥂
Yet, the vibe is electric. ⚡️
The live band is shouting, Sho ma na owo yen tan!" 🎶 and Aunties are spraying money like they own printing presses. 💸
Your entire family group chat will hear about it.
Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok — everything must see your joy, your glow, your calculated shakara. ✨

And then, like Cinderella’s carriage at midnight, reality knocks. ⏰
You reach home.
Remove your lashes
You’re massaging your swollen feet and counting how many calories you danced off.
The aso-ebi is lying on the floor like a defeated soldier. ⚔️
Your phone is full of blurry videos of yourself shouting "This life na one!" like a philosopher with zero savings. 📱

And you just smile, because you know...
You’ll do it again.
And again.
And again.
Because in those few hours, we are exactly who we dream to be: unbothered, unstoppable, and drowning in powdered happiness. ✨

Who needs therapy when you have Owambe? 🎉

The Art of Minding My Own Business (and Loving Every Second of It)🦋

There’s absolutely nothing I enjoy more than minding my own business. No, seriously. It’s become my self-care, my personal retreat, my spa day in the form of silence and soft boundaries.
Let me tell you—minding my business is not just a habit, it’s a lifestyle. A peaceful, quiet, deeply fulfilling one. I wake up, pray, sweat (because, movement is life), journal, sip my tea, and focus on building a life so full and interesting, I barely have time to scroll through drama—unless it involves a recipe, travel adventure, or a gorgeous linen two-piece. Then maybe, just maybe, I’ll peep.

But here’s the truth: Minding your business doesn’t mean you don’t care about people.
It means you understand something most folks haven’t figured out yet:
There are three types of business in this world—
When I learned to stop poking my nose into gardens that weren’t mine, I started blooming in ways I never imagined.

People sometimes mistake peace for passiveness. But I promise you, the most dangerous kind of power is the one that minds its own business while building empires silently.
While others are busy scrolling, gossiping, judging, or getting distracted by the lives of others, I’m here curating joy, chasing dreams, learning something new, or dancing in my kitchen with a face mask on.
So here’s my golden life tip:
Make your life so interesting, so juicy, so purpose-filled, that keeping your attention focused on it gives you endless entertainment.
Seriously. Try it. Create things. Move your body. Pray. Travel. Love harder. Laugh louder. Heal. Reflect. Grow. Rest. Repeat.
And the next time someone invites you into chaos that’s not yours? Politely decline, return to sender, and sip your tea in peace.
Because that’s what an expert in the art of minding their business does.

Today’s gentle reminder:
Focus is your superpower. Peace is your compass. Minding your business? That’s your art. Master it.

I Gifted Myself Joy, Love & Peace – The Story Behind My 40th Birthday Photoshoot

Sometime after my 40th birthday, on a regular March day in 2025, I found myself in a moment of reflection. I asked myself a simple but life-shifting question: If I were the one giving myself a birthday gift, what would I truly want?

I didn’t want stuff. I didn’t want grandeur. I wanted something deeper—joy, love, and peace. ✨
But I didn’t want them in abstract forms. I wanted to feel them. I wanted to see them. I wanted to capture them. So, I decided to turn my desire into art—and that’s how this 40th birthday photo shoot was born.

The idea started wild (as most of mine do) 🎨, but thankfully, a dear colleague (Oma😍) caught the vision and jumped right in with me. We asked: What would joy look like? How would peace show up in color? What space could embody love?
We answered with three locations:
Home, dressed in white – the serenity of peace. A clean canvas. A fresh breath. ☁️

The beach – playful, vibrant, untamed joy. Wind in my hair, sand in my toes, and laughter in my soul. 🌊

A garden – romantic, dreamy, and lush. It was Cinderella-meets-woman-in-bloom. That was love. 🌸

Now, five years later, I flipped through the photos again—and goodness, what a journey. I realized that when I chose joy, love, and peace intentionally, life started reflecting those very things back at me. Not all at once, and not without effort—but they came. And what didn’t align quietly found its way out.
This experience taught me that we’re not just living life—we’re designing it. We’re the creators of the atmosphere we want to live in. And when we become clear about what we desire, the universe meets us there. ✨
So, as you scroll through this blog post and catch glimpses of that photo shoot, I hope it sparks something in you too.
May your joy be full. 💛
May your peace radiate. 🕊️
May your love shine through. ❤️

And if you’re ever wondering what to gift yourself… start there.
Start with what your soul truly craves.
